Hello-- just a quick intro!

My name is Arnoldo Offermann from Florida (US).

I am vice president of a company called A Premier Entertainment and president of its school division, 4SchoolsOnly. I also run a company called Master School Dances where I teach other DJs (national and international) how to market, sell, and perform at these tough teen events. In our market, we see DJs from $300-1500 doing school dances, whereas we are running at $2500 to $11,000 for a 4 hour dance.

I love doing high-energy weddings and of course school dances; and my other passion is photography. Of course, the latter is pure hobby so it never turns into a job. :)

A few links, if you're interested... my blog (I blog about every event I do, including pics and video) http://ArnoldoOffermann.com
Our wedding site: http://www.MyDreamReception.com
Our school/teen event site: http://www.4SchoolsOnly.com

and my MSD site: http://MasterSchoolDances.com

If any of you are going to Mobile Beat Last Vegas, I'll see you there (I'm a presenter). Thanks!

Hey i've seen a few of your 4schools only videos on youtube and they are fantastic! I only wish the proms over here in the UK were on the same level and had the same budget as you guys in the US!

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks! They CAN be... why not? DJs IN MY MARKET still say "I wish we were on the same level and budget." There may be a few differences, of course, but the method still works! That's why I have DJs worldwide, even Australia, that are now banking on school/teen dances. :)

How long has the tradition of a school proms been going in the USA?
How long has the tradition of your average high school in the UK having a prom as opposed to a school disco?
How many schools in the north west of the UK have a prom budget for entertainment of £ 6,994.89?(thats $11,000)
yes things change but it will be a long time before a School in Tameside has a seven grand budget for a prom that wouldn't get ripped apart by angry parents saying the money could be better spent with a spread in the local paper.

we grew up in the UK watching films of kids having proms I never had a prom neither did any of my same aged peers, my kids have. the market for this is growing and in a few years i think we will be at this sort of level but the funding for school events is somewhat different in the UK than in the USA.

I am not getting personal , i am not having a go at you as a person , i am not being xenophobic but just asking straight forward questions. i welcome you and your ideas and i am willing to listen and learn , i do feel that you may find some of the questions and answers some post to be a little harsh or uncomfortable but thats because in my years experience i have never seen or hear of a school paying over £1000 for entertainment in Tameside (my local area) never mind £7000.

sorry to sound negative, but i look forward to your posts and contributions and look forward to learning how to get that sort of fee.

Welcome to the forum

I have just spent the last hour looking at your site and it has some interesting content.

At first glance it would appear to me that the way of doing things on your side of the pond is somewhat different to ours both from a presentation point of view and to a lesser extent the choice of music, certainly from the school prom point of view.

Again, I hear the same thing IN MY OWN MARKET! I have DJs tell me "schools have no money" as I take their $500 school and turn it into a $2500+ client!

we grew up in the UK watching films of kids having proms I never had a prom neither did any of my same aged peers, my kids have. the market for this is growing and in a few years i think we will be at this sort of level but the funding for school events is somewhat different in the UK than in the USA.

I understand... and you can't go from one extreme to the other; but my methods work internationally. :) I didn't really want to focus on that too much since I didn't want people thinking I'm spamming.

sorry to sound negative, but i look forward to your posts and contributions and look forward to learning how to get that sort of fee.
Thanks!.

We are very different than most companies in our area, even. This is why we stand out. :)

Welcome along.

I've had a look at your site, not seen it before. Interesting stuff. Personally I can see some of the stuff you do working over hear. The club extreme package you have in your gallery is almost identical to the rig I'm putting out this year for the bigger 18th and college proms (if I get any, lol).

Considering I'll be touring that setup for around £500 a night, I think your type of events are well within the budgets of colleges here in the uk. Even though we don't have a proper American prom scene here Im sure we can all pick up some ideas from what you guys do. I've nicked some already from just ten mins on your site. Lol. Won't be doing the mega big stuff, but then our colleges don't have 10,000 students and span a small town in size!

Will be interesting to find out a bit more. Hope you continue to post updates here. :)

Thanks! If it helps, our $10,000 events have been for UNDER 1200 people.. our math just rocks. ;)

Is there a way I could get permission from the mods to talk about my video series and even post a free training video for the members here? :)

Lol! Your money's safe rob, your money's safe.

I do them for bluecoats, and getting £500 off them is like trying to prize a kebab off Kerry Katona. It's a struggle but you tire that fat b*tch out in the end.

I don't go in for all the American style MTV over the top sh*te anyway, leave that to the yanks. I just like looking at pics and robbing ideas. :)

That sweet 16 thing where they hand out invites like they are a wonkers golden ticket makes me want to puke. If I had kids like that at my gigs I'd torch the place and let my rig go up with them. Be worth it.

Christoph if you can find a genuine sweet sixteen that's a virgin in Tameside that's almost a miracle lol.

I absolutely and totally agree that some of the ideas and concepts are transferable and getting inspiration is what i have, and still do from our american friends.... but taking as gospel hook line and sinker evey word said is not my way, i genuinely appreciate the input that our colleagues from other shores offer. some indeed do genuinely work but some don't , part of evolving as a dj is trying out different things an seeing what works.

I sometimes have a feeling that some workshops DVD's or courses are too self helpy or too cultist for my own tastes and that they promote psycho babble and marketing BS even then they often have good advice hidden in the messages as an agenda to get you on board.

I am a sceptical guy but also open minded , i need proof to suspend disbelief ..so show me evidence and I will go with most points of view , but just saying its so isn't evidence to me. so who is doing £7000 proms in the north west of England?

Many have said the same thing in the US... many still do. Then they realize how wrong they were. My videos don't teach you to make £XXXX amount, they teach you to be the market leader in pricing, value AND volume!

Christoph if you get a prom in Tameside for £7000 I will come and "Roadie" for you for £1000.

I can see how they get the money in America though, the populations of the schools are so much bigger, so divide the cost per student, say 1000 students into £7k is only £7 of the ticket price for the DJ.

Theres no chance you are getting a 7k gig at a publicly funded school in the north in England. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

I work with a lot of schools as I finance their fixed assets via pfi and I'll tell you right now, the governers would be sacked id they signed off a £7k budget for a party. People like me would make sure of it.

Private schools on London? Maybe, I dont know that market at all. You'd need some big attraction though, fairground type thing or a big name headline act. Certainly you are not gonna learn how to do it by watching a DVD.

Yup.. I hear the same here "there's no way" yadda yadda yadda.

Even IF, why focus on just the price alone? That's not what i teach.

But hey-- keep saying NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. ;)

No offence mate, I'm kinda on your side, but until you've come to the uk and done it - it's just hollow bragging. Come here, get 4 or 5 £7k bookings at schools and we'll stop doubting you.
