Theft Insurance

Evening all,

Just a question thats been on my mind for a while now:-

With more and more jobs being hire, or installations (uplighting, PA, dancefloors etc) just wondering if anyone knows any theft insurance companies?

I used to stay on site with any equipment, but recently i am returning an hour after the event has finished or sometimes even the day after.

Just wondered if there is any cover available for this? Id be devastated if someone nicked something whilst i wasnt there.

Name change ...

Hi guys,

Just thought I would give you all a head's up that I've had to 'start' a company name for insurance purposes etc. As most of you know my work is purely voluntary for the local bonfire society so this may lead to me being pulled back into the disco, wedding etc market! let's see ... Anyway I've now gone from MDM Mike to Mike @ Hidux, and our website will soon be at www.hidux.co.uk

Rowleys TXT2SCREEN software is here

As most people here are aware that I have creating my own TXT2SCREEN program.

Now its here with a self install exe. Very Simple to use. I would use a 3g dongle of some kind as this is what i used.

Some thing to note when setting up and using.

When connecting a modem " Dongle " in the setup tab you will see poll

Tick this box if you are using a 3g Dongle. If your using a mobile phone then please leave this unticked

I have a video of the software working as I'm not a very good at typing.

Let me no if there is any problems.

I've got old, it's officially happened.

Well, two weeks or so before my 30th birthday I have finally become old. How do I know?

Well ive just this minute turned down the chance to play electro house in a decent club in Manchester on the same bill as some decent dj's a new night thats being promoted.

Why? Well it's the usual story of promotors wanting you to do it for the love (for free), and I'm just not feeling it anymore.

Clubbing now (proper clubbing, not high street clubs/bars) annoys me more than it inspires me. Every night I go to as a dj or as a raver these days leaves me disappointed. Stupid bouncers, stupid promotors, stupid clueless ADD symptomatic kids with their iPhones in the air, stupid Facebook pre event spamming.... I could go on.

Now I'm sure that these things always more or less existed, and they just never bothered me, but honestly I'm stick of all the bullsh*t that is part and parcel of club djing now. Back in the day you knew who was good and who wasnt. Nights ran all summer, usually more than one summer. They gor better and better each week. Now nights stop and start on a weekly basis, theres no startup costs, just create a Facebook group spam a few thousand people and off you go.

There's no love and no talent at these nights anymore.

So I told them thanks but no thanks. Truth be told I'm far more happy these days mashing it up proper style on my own gear, rocking a genuine crowd at a prom with all kinds of tunes than I am playing 128 bpm house with people who stand there turning eq knobs on channels that arnt in use just to look busy.

Club djing. Rip.

That's it. I'm old.

This takes the p1ss

HMV Digital.

They have this habit of letting you buy stuff by mistake and finding out that you have "pre-ordered" and you can't download it just yet.

Just buying some tracks for this weekends weddings, one of them is Del Shannon's "Runaway" from like the 60s (I may have it, but sometimes it's easier to just buy it in case, rather than rigging up the gig machine etc).

So it's not released yet, so it's gone into pre-orders.

Have a look at the attached screen shot to see when I can download it.

DMX Interference

I'm going to pre-wire some of my overheads and uprights for power and DMX.
The way I had planed means the DMX cable will be attached to the power lead along the uprights. Is it possible this could cause interference of the DMX signal from the power??
Thanks

A little bit dissapointed

We were asked to provide a chocolate fountain and candy floss vary for the Britains Got Tallent wrap party last night. It was held at The Penthouse @ one Leicester Square and we were really excited about it. Well, big kid me was just interested to see how a top London venue does things.

However (aside from the wrap party itself), I was hugely dissapointed with the venue. I should start by saying that te whole team there were exceptional and I couldn't fault them. But the venue just felt like it had been forgotten. Tables scruffy, floors unpolished, bar dirty. The sound system I expected to be lite better, but a pair of cdj 900's and zone 62 combined with KV2 sound system suggested potential as did the scx600's on the wall. But the resident DJ ignored the cdj's and DJ'd from a mac all night (or at least that's how it seemed). Not even a beat mix in site and (this may have been due to our chocolate fountain being next to them), didn't use the subs all night resulting in a very bright sound and the 600's seemed to al be on standalone S2L.

Just had a feeling that a venue in Leicester square would have offered something a little better than that!

Other than that, the views were amazing (particularly as the snow white premier was going on and we had the balcony on our floor!) and the wrap party was great fun!
