Been sending out information to local Wedding Venues trying to get more business (as you do!) and one has reponded very positively, but has asked me to send in a Demo Tape!

Not sure about you guys, but i don't usually record my disco's, and can't really mix to save my life ........... and in my opinion, a Demo Tape isn't really going to help.

Should i offer to go over and meet with them (which obviously i would need to do at some point anyway) or should i try and put together a Demo Tape showing off my excellent mixing skills (it will take me hours, but could be done) which IMO would be pointless, or something else altogether!

Neil.

Demo tapes really dont work in this situation, most of what you would be doing would be chop mixing, well apart from the dancey weddings you may get.
If you can do a small demo tape, 30 to 40 minutes do, just put on all the floorfillers. But just explain to him that you music selection would be to suit the clients music tastes and requests that may be given on the night.

Arrange to meet him, what you would need to be showing is your set-up, how neat it is, how professional it looks, any uplighting pictures etc.
Reaffirming reliability, PAT, PLI, Produb, contracts etc, put you know that already!!

I doubt if they are interested in your mixing skills - they might want to hear you using the mic - they might want to see a video of your setup?

Go visit they for a chat and see what they need from you and scout the various rooms you could be playing to see what u r letting yourself in for!

I would try and get them a short video clip.
This will show your typical rig and give them a chance to see / hear you in action.
Nothing too long just a minute or so of video should do the trick
